Schmidt Family Big Island of  Hawaii Trip June 2007!

Oakland Airport, waiting to board airplane

Ryan posing beside pool at Hilton time share

White rocks from beach. Black rocks are old lava flow.

Behind our time share condo is The Beach Course, an 18-hole golf course

Hollywood and his lady.

The Waikoloa Beach resort (where our time share was) had one swimming beach.

This white rock beach was beside the swimming beach and behind the Hilton Hotel

Hilton Hotel pool, viewed from a swinging bridge.

The Hilton had a dolphin show.

This turtle was swimming into the Hilton lagoon from the ocean, as seen from the bridge we were walking on.

Entertainment at the shopping mall that was a part of the resort.

You can take the boy out of the Midwest but, there are still things that remind him of home.

A swimming beach in Kailua-Kona, the city we flew into.

We could have stared at the ocean for hours.

Ever heard of Kona coffee?

Still at Kona Joe's

A black sand beach - more like gravel than sand.

Black sand beach before Ryan had been swimming with the waves.

Our time share unit in the background. More lava in the foreground.

A close-up on the pool where Ryan posed earlier.

Another view of the Beach Course behind our time share.

Hollywood posing in front of the office/clubhouse of the Hilton timeshare

Another golf course image

Dad got to play a round at the course and Ryan got a short ride in the cart.

Mom sure knows how to take an action shot. This is from the 6th fairway.

An exotic bird on an island at the Hilton Hotel.

This is why we spent a lot of time at the Hilton Hotel pool instead of the time share pool.

Ryan got to take a class and swim with the dolphins.

Who's kissing whom hear?

Dad & Mom didn't get to do this.

Not much grey hair yet.

Wow!

The Western side of the island is pretty arid with lots of evidence of past lava flows.

Dad really liked photographing this course.

This is why there aren't snakes in Hawaii.

The waves were really big our last two days there.

This waitress visited the Hooters in Kansas City to get her shirt.

Family Schmidt having a great time.

Ryan received an autographed balloon saying he's the cutest guy in the restaurant.

This shrine outside of St. Michael's was made of sea choral.

A Happy Guy...

A gecko that had lost its tail - he'll surely grow another.

Ryan took this picture as we were getting ready to depart Kona.

Flight was oversold so we got to stay another day.

Sheltered from the big waves, a lagoon where we could feed the fish.

There's the waves.  Aloha!
